Individual confesses to sexual offenses targeting boys at summer camp
A person who spiked candy with sedative and provided them to youngsters at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual offenses against two young males aged nine and 10.
The defendant was arrested after eight minors and an older person experienced illness at the location in July.
The elderly man, from that region, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.
However, he denied one particular crime he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was held in detention before a further hearing on 28 November.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a youth camp which he ran.
The defendant played a "sweet game" with the children, the legal counsel said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge the man had played this game with the children "for many years", and youngsters had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She explained the defendant had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had concerns in summer 2025.
The prosecutor continued: "Recently" his family member had suspicions about what was going on, for good reason.
"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor explained objects including lubricant, petroleum jelly and injection devices were found, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his worries.
She said Ruben proceeded to engage in the "candy game" with six boys that night - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that stage," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was examining the police response of the incident.
Mrs Prior said the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the family member notified the authorities a second time.
She stated the man then engaged in the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
